i quite like this band from new york although i'm not entirely sure why. perhaps it's their ability to fuse together few sounds to create a full song or perhaps it's just the fact that they're different from the mass of electronica artists. either way, nakeddna have a quality to their music which is entirely pleasurable - low key, but well done. yumyum is quietly driven by a slow kick drum and an opaque saw wave but what makes this song especially good is the vocals. most of you won't be familiar with an old band called traffic headed by steve winwood but they created some music (albeit not electronic) with an almost tribal quality and the style/vocal's from yumyum remind me greatly of traffic's 40,000 headmen. a silly comparison perhaps but traffic were such a good band and i think a comparison of this magnitude is a compliment :) with whatever!, naked dna take on the drum 'n bass feel overlaid with melodic progressions. not quite up to par with yumyum but a good, solid outing nonetheless. incorporating a pink floyd style sax for venus works very well. the song is carried by a very bassy laid back drum track. slightly jazzy but with a new age/ambient edge, this song is so tasteful and well structured. the extreme delay on the vocals enforces the ambient style which tends to change throughout the song but always remains true to the arrangement. a very impressive composition deserving of high recommendation so we've added it to raw42's top songs list. very well done.

perhaps one of the all-time heaviest sub bass drums opens ambition an otherwise mellow dance track. the use of stereo is excellent, you never know which side of your headphones the next sound is going to appear. the lewd female vocals that are sparingly placed are well done, they almost go unnoticed. manual (overdrive) is a fast song with an original start, a girl saying so we hit the spacebar.. and now it's playing back for us.. i thought it was funny. again the vocals samples are immersed in the music so that you have to strain to hear them. an interesting choice of style. sarah lawrence is composed of a slow breakbeat that could easily be the backing for a rap song, but the fleeting resonant bass line takes it into the experimental dance genre. the experimental part being the vocals. a guy talking about when he went to school with sarah lawrence and a dog that was taken to a laboratory. i like this song for its heavy beat and the coolness of those vocals. the saxophone sample is also inspired. interesting in style and certainly danceable music from new york. check it out because nakeddna music is well worth your download time.

AMP3 Reviews - Electronica Review by Bruce Satinover

NakedDNA produce quality dance oriented electronica that features strong beats and TB style bass synth. "Sarah Lawrence" has an entertaining monologue that runs through the song that works both as an interesting timbre but also as a story. Placement of the occasional and sparse non-rhythmic instruments make "Sarah Lawrence" an enjoyable listen even after repeated play.

Olá, nakedDNA !!!
Ambition
Great beginning. This mixture between electronic,
ambient and oriental (?!?) music is great.
The ethnic melody riff gives it a dense atmosphere and the drumbeat fits very well into it. This track has an ambient feeling, it's not very eventful. But it's an excellent track
to chill out.

Yumyum
Another ambient tune. The beat is straighter, cool rapted lyrics accompanied by a 70's-influenced bassline.
To my mind, there should be more variation in the beat. But the synths complete it very well.

Samba Nova
Cool unusual beat. Most modern music is in 4/4, this track is in
6/8. Great strings combined with a weird acid-bass-/synthline.
Not very commercial. A nice experiment.

You should write more songs like Ambition. It's really brilliant !!!

Please check out at least my DAM-only tracks "Nocturnal Visions" and "Aimless" (InstantPlay on my DAM CD)...

Peace, Edge Of Dawn !!!

Last but not least for the day is

NakedDNA

Ambition--> I don't know why, but I vision eating an apple and seeing a little dude inside. Sometimes I feel like I'm in Pakistan, and other times I feel like I'm in South Central Los Angeles. Now the female in the song intimidates me even though she has a soothing voice. I envision my self riding a bycicle at times......I don't know.....I feel different emotions and see different things. She keeps saying how big are your dreams I think. Maybe a city scape?

Samba Nova--> Sounds like the beginning of a pink floyd song.....crossed with...Badar Ali Khan.....then going techno....I feel like I'm in a bad trip. It does give me a bit of insane look on things. I'm loosing my mind. Hey that was Russian for "Your a Soldier". Sounds like a chemical factory now. "Square"?...is that what she's saying? Interesting.....

Venus--> Very atmospheric and surreal.....soothing...I imagine colorful spheres. The sax comes in. I'm in a bar...on Mars. No...duh....I'm on venus. A female Martian catches my eye. The sax is whaling. The voices in my head are taking me over......spaceships zoom by my face. I see the Female again, and she approaches me. But I'm so messed up, I can't even talk to her. She licks me on the face. I keep hearing that car....I MISS CARS!!! I want to go back home. the beat picks up.....I hear a guitar in the distance....but it just isn't the same. Maybe if I think hard enough, Venus will be just like Earth. Oh look.....that's a rock star!! he's keen. IF YOURE NOT INTO METAL, YOURE NOT MY FRIEND!!! That female......she's got a bod...and that hair? I just want to rip it off and shove it up my asshole. Those numbers...Those are my winning numbers!!! It's the code to get out of here!!! Oh god......I have to get the f%*k out .........sleep.....ahh good idea. That was a nightmare. I feel emotionally drained.

Thanks
Keep em coming people, tell me what you think.

Hey Yeah, its me again, and I am back at it. You know reveiwing stuff. Today I am doing Naked DNA and might I say, wow!
http://www.mp3.com/nakeddna
Now the first thing I would like to say is it isn't Expermental but who cares!! These folks are a real good group.

The first song I listented to was Ambition.
The intro is good, but when the vocals come in they sounded a little fuzzy. This could be because of the encoding or poor recording (which I doubt, cause the rest of the recording is great). They sound like you recorded them to loud, or on a cheap mic. This isn't true for the rest of the song. All other times the main vocal line stuff comes in it sounds good.
I love the feel the back ground stuff gives. The synth sound in the back ground are great, pronounced but not over powering. At 1:28 or so I love the big build, that then falls short giving the the listener the feeling smallness. 1:30 a good sax sounds comes in very nice.

The drum track through out the song is good, but not great. I being a drummer, makes me a little critical of drums (esp. MACHINES).
Overall I would say the song is to long, I would have stopped it at about 3:15 or so, but you are the artist and I am the critic.

Stero Vision is up next so here we go.

The vocals at the beagining are wonderful, cool lyrics also. The build after the first vocal stuff is good but kinda a tease. When I here those big chords just piling up I feal like okay here we go, but you guys always trick me by going back to the main theme maybe you should set up a big key board part after on of those, just a suggestion.
I like the buzz sound that comes in at 2:38 nice. All the little back ground fluff stuff is good but let's not get crazy with it. (Well crazy in the bad way)

Again you aren't expermental, but you are a good band, group what ever you call yourselves. Becareful with the drum machines and sampling stuff you could make some one bored to death with it. Don't get me wrong you do a good job, its just that.. I forgot my point. you sound good, I can dance to it.

You guys have fun

Although all of the NakedDNA material is great, Venus has got to be the best of the pack. The sax instantly produced a vision of Blade Runner. It quickly sends you into a Pink Floyd-kind-of-trance with all kinds of tasteful things going on right down to the guitar noodles. Don't even need a spliff to enjoy this one. NakedDNA will definitely remain a part of my MP3 collection.

Good stuff Armen!
P.S. - As far as being on par with Tom, et al I don't think you have anything to worry about.
